Don't become victim to crime in the heat
4:19pm Friday 27th July 2012 in News
THE recent mini heatwave has been a welcome treat for many people after a spell of unseasonably wet and cool weather.
Many will be hoping that we continue to enjoy warm and sunny days while the Olympics are underway and in the days that follow the Games. But Wiltshire Police are reminding people it is important
not to lower your guard when it comes to crime.
Every year at this time, there will be burglars ready to exploit any weaknesses in personal security. For example, people can fall victim to ‘walk in’ burglaries where a thief takes advantage of an open door to slip inside a property and snatch valuables.
Officers are advising residents to ensure that when they go out, all doors and windows are locked tight and, even when indoors or in the garden, opportunities are not provided for burglars.
Don’t be tempted to leave anything unlatched, even during a short absence from the home. It may mean that the house gets stuffy and hot, but that is better than coming home to find you are a victim
of burglary.
