Sewer repairs in Trowbridge will bring roadworks for two months

Roadworks return to West Ashton Road in Trowbridge on Monday and will last until November. Wessex Water will construct a 1,100m new sewer east of the electricity sub- station in Green Lane towards the County Way roundabout.

It will provide a connection for the new housing development in Green Lane, as well as increasing capacity in the sewer network.

Two-way traffic lights will operate in West Ashton Road from Monday to September 30, followed by a full road closure from October 1 to October 26 to enable a section of sewer to be tunnelled.

There will then be two-way again from October 27 to 8 November 8.

A lane closure will also be in effect in County Way between West Ashton Road roundabout and Tesco for around four weeks from October 1, while a ‘rolling’ lane closure will operate in Green Lane, from the electricity sub-station to West Ashton Road, from Monday to November 2.

Wessex Water engineer Ashley Williamson said: “We are aware drainage improvement work was recently carried out in the area.

“While we always look to work with organisations and other utility companies so work can be carried out at the same time, on this occasion it wasn’t physically possible due to the nature of construction being carried out.

“It would have also prolonged how long the work would have taken and led to a number of full road closures which would have been very disruptive to local people.”

The West Ashton Road diversion will be via the A361, A363 and A350. A local diversion will also be in place for Trowbridge Rugby Club.

Wessex Water contractors Lewis Civil Engineering will be using teams working in different locations to minimise disruption and reduce the timescale of the work.
