Wiltshire cop arrested in connection with payments to police inquiry

A 39-year-old serving Wiltshire Police officer was arrested at his home on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office at 6am today.

The man’s arrest was part of Metropolitan Police Service’s Operation Elveden an investigation into allegations of inappropriate payments to police and public officials.

Wiltshire Police is refusing to say what rank the officer is, or where he is from.

The officer is being interviewed at a south west London police station.
Two journalists, one a man aged 51, from Bristol, and the other a man aged 32, from London, were also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office.

The arrests follow information provided by News of the World publisher News Corporation's Management Standards Committee to the police investigation.
