Pub league gambler wins an all-expenses-paid trip to final in Las Vegas

Pub poker player Paul Tadman has won an all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas after finishing in the top 10 of a national semi-final.

Paul Tadman, who plays in the poker league at the Longs Arms in Yarnbrook on Tuesdays, won the prize at the Vegas 100 tournament at Genting Club Sheffield on Sunday.

More than 200 of the best pub poker players in the country took part in the first national semi-final.

The top 10 secured their place to join 90 other players in the American gambling capital for the final in May next year.

Mr Tadman qualified for the game in Sheffield by coming second in a regional final in Bristol earlier this year.

Mr Tadman, 37, of Westbury Leigh, started playing Texas Hold ’Em poker with friends about five years ago. A regular at the Longs Arms, when the poker league started he signed up to play.

He said: “I’m chuffed to bits. It’s great to be able to make it that far in what was quite a high-pressure environment. To make it to the final 10 was fantastic. When we play down at the Longs Arms, it’s a bit friendlier; you know people who go regularly.

“I’ve never been to Las Vegas, but it’s always been on my bucket list. I’ve always wanted to go. “Now I can see the bright lights, the casinos, have a bit of a tour and see the Grand Canyon.”

Details of the trip are yet to be finalised, but Redtooth Poker will fly Mr Tadman out and put him up for around six days, while he takes part in the Vegas 100 tournament for the top 100 players of the firm’s 145,000 registered members.

Martin Green, managing director of Redtooth Poker, said: “This is the first time we’ll be taking 100 of the UK’s best pub poker players to Las Vegas as part of the national league.

“Well done to those who have already secured their place and we look forward to more exciting competitions across the country over the coming months, to determine the remaining group of players.

Regional qualifiers will continue next year, with a second semi-final due to take place on March 25.
