Canoes set for river return

CANOES and kayaks will return to the river at Bradford on Avon for hire for the third year running.

The Family Adventure Store, based at Marsh Farm, Hilperton, is hiring out the equipment from St Margaret's quayside in the town from next month.

Edd Perry, who works at the shop, said: "Two years ago we had nice weather and people were saying how good it was on the river, but last year was bad with all the floods in the area."

Those hiring the canoes and kayaks will be able to take a 45-minute return trip downriver towards the town weir or in the opposite direction, ending at the old railway bridge near to the kayak club.

But the hiring business has been far from smooth for the shop.

"Unfortunately, we've had a couple stolen in the last two years" Mr Perry said.

But the remarkable Wiltshire countryside and wildlife though, remains a big attraction for tourists wanting to make the most of the river Avon.

"At some points on the river, you can see otters on the banks, which is nice," Mr Perry added.

The Family Adventure Store specialises in providing equipment and training in outdoor sports and activities.
