A GROUP of intrepid walkers from west Wiltshire have just returned from a trip to the Himalayas where they were trekking at 11,000ft.
The trip was run by Journeying, a company set up by Sue Glanville and Candy Verney from Bradford on Avon who run walking and singing trips around the UK and abroad.
The 15 participants travelled to Delhi then on to Haridwar further up the Ganges before going on to Nanda Devei, India's highest mountain, where their walk began.
Using ponies and sherpas to carry their kit they walked for about five hours a day through forests and up to the snow line, camping at night.
Mrs Glanville, 56, said: "The hardest things was the extremes - it was very hot during the day and extremely cold at night when it dropped down below freezing.
"We sang every night together round the fire or in the tents. We even learnt some Indian songs from the sherpas about herding cows, and some Hindu chants."
