700 sign Climate Bill petition

A PETITION organised by a climate friendly group calling for the strengthening of the Climate Change Bill, has attracted more than 700 signatures from people in Bradford on Avon, Trowbridge and the surrounding area.

The Climate Change Bill, which calls for CO2 emissions to be cut by 60 per cent by 2050, is soon to be debated in the House of Commons.

Rowena Quantrill, of Climate Friendly Bradford, said: "Scientists who set this target have recently admitted that change is taking place so rapidly that this target is now inadequate and the petition is calling for a new target of at least 80 per cent.

"It also calls for aircraft and shipping, the fastest growing sources of emissions, to be included in the reduction targets and those signing also agree to take the actions individuals need to take to achieve the targets.

"There is very real concern evident about climate change and its effects and people want the government to take strong action - it is encouraging how keen people were to sign the petition."

The group has sent the petition to Dr Andrew Murrison, MP for west Wiltshire.

Actually the UN IPCC just reduced their maximum estimates by 25% following 10 years with no increase in global temperature....but the lies go on regardless. The well known 'hocky stick' curve has also been removed from the latest IPCC report in response to challenges from scinetists around the world that it was grossly misleading on historic global temperatures.

Good time for a petition. Nice One BOA.

Bored with all this now. Do the yanks care....NO. Do the Chinese care....NO course not. They're opening 2 coal fired power stations A MONTH!!! What effect is lil ol' GB gonna have?? I'll tell you. Nothing. Out leaders are telling us to watch our carbon footprints whilst falling over themselves to engraciate themselves on the Chinese stage. Just keep taxing us like the burden of the entire planet is on this small island. Pah!

Reducing energy usage is a good thing - but
come on .... expecting our government / politicians to make a difference?

We are saddled with an establishment populated by tax junkies and in classic
junkie fashion they'll say anything and pretty much do anything to get their
fix.

If it's so important - How about doing something real and practical like dropping taxes on ultra low energy budget homes and businesses, taking all tax off ground source heating products, LPG cars and buses, promoting combined heat and power in schools, hospitals and high density housing (blocks of flats etc)

Hang on, what's that noise ...? duh , another flying pig......

Concern for the environment is self preservation in disguise - but when will the Monbiots of this world get a grip?

I had to guffaw at somebody in Bradford on Avon saying "reduce shipping emissions" like the UK actually has any ships? It's almost "ban phone masts" stuff - sad.

How many of the 700 signitories signed while thinking;
'What the hell, anything to get this person off my back, I only want to do my shopping and go home'

We all know now that this insignificant island and it's people are now having an environmental burden put on it that's unwarranted by the people.
Once again, we try to do our bit but every turn the goalposts are moved. e.g. move it from 60% to 80% just because it's achievable?
Enough... petition the Chinese and everyone else, we have done our tour of duty on this one. Leave us alone.

700 signatures from Bradford on Avon , Trowbridge and surrounding area ?
Great effort 700 from say 40,000 plus, less than 2% of the population, tells you the real feelings doesn't it !

Cant argue with the stats eh Colin. Government and some misguided individuals are using this subject as means to generate taxes. It's very very simple. Unless we are all onboard...forget it! Hammer us..it will make no difference. Remember how the atmosphere changed massively after 9/11 and all the planes were grounded over the USA? Yet we are always looking to expand airports? Doh.I dunno.

I'll sign but I don't give an **** because there is nothing we can do to stop it because of the greed that exists in this world.
