Halloween trouble prompts event

A SPECIAL halloween evening is being organised by the North Wiltshire Community Safety Partnership in a bid to avoid anti-social problems.

Last year a group of young people caused a major disturbance on halloween night in Calne and this year the Community Safety Partnership are planning to hold an event for all the family to enjoy.

A fun fair will be taking place in the Calne Town Centre in the Market Place car park and in and car park C, operated by Sainsbury's.

To allow the event to take place North Wiltshire District Council has agreed that people who normally use those car parks will be able to park for free in Church Street for that one day.

Shoppers will still be able to park as normal in car parks A and B adjacent to the Sainsbury's store.

Lead Member for Parking at North Wiltshire District Council, Cllr Chuck Berry, said: "We are more than happy to waive parking charges for the Church Street car park on halloween to allow this event take place.

Halloween is celebrated by many families and this should provide an attraction for the whole family to enjoy and should prevent a repeat of the anti-social behaviour in the town on halloween night."
