Man charged after cashpoint 'theft'

A 28-YEAR-OLD man from Chippenham has been charged with theft after he allegedly took money from a woman at a supermarket cashpoint.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Sunday when a 49-year-old woman was getting £200 out of a machine at Sainsbury's in Bath Road, Chippenham.

After withdrawing the cash, she was approached by a man who snatched the money from her hand and ran off.

The woman was not hurt.

A local man was charged at around 5.30pm on Monday.

Sergeant Martin Alvis, of Chippenham police, said: "This a rare occurrence for Chippenham and something we of course take very, very seriously.

"We would urge members of the public to be aware of anything around them when withdrawing money."

Normally these low-lifes just take the money out of my account by direct debit for my council tax. These are new tactics. Be very aware.

Still at least our boys in blue did us proud on this occasion.

More good stories like this please!

'ere Katie why's it a "theft" and not a robbery ?

Putting it in quotes like that actually makes it seem less of an event and frankly is a straightforward insult to the lady who was robbed...
