About 20 pupils from Monkton Park Primary School were educated on the subject by school meals provider Sodexo on June 12.
The initiative was part of the Year of Food and Farming, a campaign to help children find out more about the countryside and where their food comes from through first hand experience.
Pupils from up to 500 schools across the country will have the opportunity to participate in similar workshops.
Lisa Tudor, headteacher at Monkton Park, said: "We have a very close relationship with Sodexo and are grateful to them for giving our children this opportunity.
"It is great that they carried out these educational sessions with the children, they really enjoyed it."
