THE Duke of Edinburgh will be in north Wiltshire this summer to help raise money for a scheme he set up 50 years ago.
He is attending a reception at Wiltshire College Lackham on July 8, being held in aid of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Jubilee Appeal. Over the past half century the award has helped the development of young people aged between 14 and 25, by offering a programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities.
Delivered by volunteers, it operates in more than 100 countries worldwide. Each person attending the afternoon reception at Lackham will be paying £100 a ticket, which will go towards making the award more available to disadvantaged youngsters.
Following the departure of the Duke of Edinburgh there will be an auction of luxury items, with BBC antiques expert Eric Knowles as the auctioneer. One of the lots in the auction will be the seven-day use of a luxury holiday home in Spain.
