There is only four weeks to go until communities from across Wiltshire showcase their areas at the fun-packed Diamond Jubilee celebration event on May 1.

The medieval-themed event will take place at Salisbury’s Cathedral Close from 10am to 5.30pm because of the city's links to the Magna Carta.

All Wiltshire’s community areas will be represented with a tent packed with activities, artefacts and locally-sourced refreshments, as well as other ideas which showcase what makes each community unique.

Wiltshire Council’s Shine 4 Wiltshire winners, The Salisbury Plain Military Wives Choir, will be performing along with the Prince of Wales Marching Band.

The close will play host to a number of activities with performances from actors in period costume and displays of falconry.

Maypole and morris dancing will take place, as will Gambian drumming and a medieval combat re-enactment.

An armed services band will perform and they will be hosting an inflatable assault course for families to enjoy.

Wiltshire Council leader Jane Scott said: "This promises to be an excellent event which is for everyone in Wiltshire.

"I would like to thank all the communities for coming together and showcasing just what makes their areas unique.

"With this event and the Olympics coming up, 2012 really is a year of celebration for Wiltshire."

People are being encouraged to use the Park & Ride sites with buses running every 12 to 15 minutes. The last bus leaves the centre at 6.40pm.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke Of Edinburgh, will be visiting the south west, including Salisbury, on May 1 and 2.

The Jubilee celebration is part of the council’s 2012 year of celebration, along with a festival on July 11 at Salisbury’s Hudson Field to celebrate the Olympic Torch passing through the county.
