Warminster fashion firm Dents is getting into the Diamond Jubilee spirit with a new line of Britain and royalty inspired gloves and accessories.

The company has close connections with royalty, having created Diamond Jubilee gloves for Queen Victoria and coronation gloves for the current monarch.

Traditionally, a diamond jubilee had marked a 75th anniversary.

However, in Queen Victoria’s reign it was decided to bring the date forward to the 60th anniversary, to give her something to celebrate following the death of her beloved husband, Prince Albert.

Dents will be displaying its new range in the Warminster tent at the Jubilee celebrations in Salisbury on May 1, representing local trade and industry.

Former manager and marketing consultant John Roberts said: “It has been a great honour to be associated with royalty for our long history and it is a source of pride for our staff.

“This new line has been designed to carry on part of our history and add a bit of fun and sophistication to celebratory outfits. We haven’t made any jubilee gloves for the Queen herself this time; she doesn’t often wear leather gloves, as she has to shake so many peoples’ hands. We have been a part of Warminster’s history since 1777, so we are delighted to be able to represent the town next week.”

Dents’ Jubilee Collection includes a range of items in reds, blues and white, including a purse with a blue Union Flag and a spotted blue and white hat.

The firm has also produced a summer leather glove in a Union Flag design, intended to show a bit of patriotic support during the London Olympics.

The firm’s new headquarters in Furnax Lane were officially opened last year by Princess Anne, who had visited the company before in her capacity as patron of UK Fashion and Textiles.

Its museum contains historical gloves belonging to Lord Nelson and Sir Walter Raleigh.

Other exhibits inside the Warminster tent will include traditional school costumes from Warminster School and displays from Longleat House, possibly with one or two animals from the safari park.
