ST CYRIAC’S Church in Lacock will stage a fortnight of events to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and London’s Olympic Games.

The celebration runs from Saturday, May 12, to Sunday, May 27, and is designed to involve all age groups and community groups in the village.

The two-week programme, called The Flame of Hope, will feature attractions including a puppet theatre, an evening with BBC scientist Mark Brake and rapper Jon Chase, a pub quiz and a Better Than Chocolate ladies’ evening.

More events are still to be announced.

The launch of The Flame of Hope’s will be on May 12, with a performance by a Ugandan choir and will conclude with a songs of praise and thanksgiving service on Sunday, May 27.

l Melksham Town Council has voted to look into the possibility of planting a commemorative tree in the autumn, in recognition of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

King George V Playing Fields and Melksham House are two likely venues.
