The Conservatives have chosen local businessman, Steve Welling, to stand of the District Council elections on 3 May. Here are just some of the issues Steve will champion if elected as your District Councillor.

Crime and the fear of crime is a serious concern, especially for the more vulnerable in our villages.

There are many initiatives but the best way of deterring crime is to re-introduce the village Bobby; building a relationship there keeps down local vandalism and other crime.

Rubbish/garbage - how has this become such an issue? First we welcomed wheelie bins, if we were lucky enough to have some where to store them.

Then we coped with the imposition of an added green wheelie bin, plus a black box.

Now after we have got used to what and where we place waste the Lib Dems run council has deemed green bins only for garden waste! Efficiency? I think not.

Our play areas and other leisure resources are vital to all ages, they should not be at risk from either the threat of being built on, or bad financial management. The integrity of our villages must be maintained.

If you elect me as your Councillor, youll be electing someone who will be loyal to and support a Conservative lead administration in Trowbridge.

Not only will you be voting for a local Councillor, but by voting for me, you'll be sending a clear message to Gordon Brown that his stay at Number 10 will be short lived.
