Local Conservative Councillor, Virginia Fortescue, has been chosen to stand again for the Summerham Ward for this years council elections on 3 May.
I have lived in Summerham Ward for 22 years now. I am passionately committed to the task of sustaining and enhancing the infrastructure of our beautiful villages and the quality of life for our residents both in the villages and the surrounding farming community.
I have much enjoyed the challenge of my first four years of being a District Councillor; having the Housing Portfolio in the Cabinet while the Conservatives held power, and serving on the Planning Committee.
It has also been a great help to form close and supportive relationships with the five Parish Councils.
The Boundary Commission has made unpopular changes to our Ward Boundaries.
I greatly enjoyed working with West Ashton Parish Council and am very sad to lose them from Summerham. However I relish the chance of forming a similar happy working relationship with Semington.
I look forward to the next four years as your Summerham District Councillor.
Another Conservative success has been the introduction of the Choice-based lettings scheme - Homes 4 West Wiltshire which I launched in April 2005.
It's working well and is a much fairer system for people to select affordable houses for rent. I am keenly involved with homelessness which remains a problem with ever-rising property prices; and working with our housing partners.
