Medium Joanie Goddard is hoping a spiritual evening in Melksham will help to raise hundreds of pounds for the Wiltshire Times’ Help For Heroes appeal later this month.

Mrs Goddard, 52, from Taylors View, Trowbridge, will host the evening, where she will relay messages from spirits to her audience at Melksham Conservative Club, in Bank Street, on May 21.

She is hoping to raise £750 from ticket sales and a raffle which will be added to the Wiltshire Times’ fund to help pay for a new rehabilitation centre in Tidworth.

Mrs Goddard, who works in accounts for Rygor Commercials in Westbury, said: “I’ve been involved in the spiritualist movement for 20 years, doing a lot of different things.

“I trained as a healer and I have been doing mediumship for about six years. I will be holding a demonstration, bringing messages directly from spirits.

“I won’t know anyone there, I will just go to people bringing messages that the spirits bring to me, to as many people as I can.”

The evening starts at 7.30pm and is expected to last for around 90 minutes.

Mrs Goddard decided to hold the event after receiving encouragement from her sister Avril, who is helping organise it.

“My sister kept on at me to do one, and I wanted to do some charity work. I think it’s a very good cause,” she said.

Mrs Goddard, who has put on medium events at churches and spiritual centres before, said tickets had sold out.

She added: “We’ve sold 150 tickets in total. The Conservative Club has been very good because they have given us the club for free.”
