A ladies choir based in Trowbridge has raised more than £650 for Help For Heroes from a packed concert in Edington Priory at the weekend.

Philomel Ladies Choir, which has 23 members from west Wiltshire, has been hosting concerts across the county for 21 years in a bid to raise money for charities and organisers are pleased with the success of the Help For Heroes performance.

Choir secretary Fiona Wood said: “We were absolutely delighted with the turnout and the church was packed.

“When you give a free concert with a retiring collection you can never be sure how many will attend as so much depends on the charity involved and unforeseeable factors such as the weather.

“However, we are so pleased to report that in excess of £650, our profit from the evening, will be sent to Help For Heroes.”

The choir, directed by Michael Johnson and accompanied by Stephen Cooke, sang a variety of songs and also featured 15-year-old soloist Rosie Morgan, who attends St Laurence School.

She sang three 19th century love songs and, in the second half of the concert, three songs from Les Miserables.

Hannah and Joel Munday, aged 13 and 10, played the Concerto in D minor for two violins with extraordinary accomplishment for such young players. There was also a talked from Liz Bailey, representing Help For Heroes.

The evening was hailed a great success and the choir wish to thank all those involved in ensuring a fantastic result.

The choir has collected more than £25,000 since it began.
