Determined staff and gym-goers will be taking part in a 12-hour charity spinathon at Castle Place Leisure Centre in Trowbridge on Monday.

The challenge, which starts at 8am, is raising money for Help For Heroes and will involve instructor-led classes running every two hours.

The aim is to keep the pedals of 14 stationary, or spin, bikes used for Ultimate Cycle Workout classes turning, with someone cycling at all times.

The bikes are designed to mimic cycling outside on rough terrain, hill climbs and sprints and allow riders to move up and down the gears to respond to changes in the ‘terrain’, involving endurance, strength, intensity and recovery.

Fitness manager Samantha James said: “This is a great opportunity to raise money for a good cause and get fit at the same time. We want the spinathon to be as successful as possible so please come and show your support.”

The centre’s general manager said that staff at the leisure centre are in full support of raising money for Help For Heroes.

Marcus Welford said: “Help for Heroes is a charity that is very close to our hearts here at the leisure centre. The charity does great work in giving our wounded Armed Forces support and help on the road to recovery.

“We want to do everything we can to raise money for our heroes so please come and take part.”

Customers are urged to contact reception and book their place as soon as possible, and give generously.

Ms James added: “The staff here at Castle Place Leisure Centre will be leading classes throughout the 12 hours for anyone who wishes to join us.

“We would love to see both staff and customers take part and give generously to this great charity. Our target is going to be £500 so we need lots of support on the day.”

Donations are welcome throughout the day and participants are being asked to donate £2 per class, all going straight to the charity.

Bookings can be taken at reception although if there is space people can just turn up and cycle.
