A world-renowned Royal Air Force band will be performing a concert in Bath Abbey to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Among those invited to attend is Prince Charles, who could be sitting alongside members of the Wootton Bassett Royal British Legion, who are special guests at the concert for their work in the repatriations.

The Central Band of the Royal Air Force and the Bath Male Choir will perform at Bath Abbey on Saturday March 12 with all proceeds going towards the Help for Heroes charity.

Air Commodore Peter Beange, who is organising the event and is a member of the Bath Chorus Choir, said: “We want to do the concert for Help For Heroes because of the importance of the charity and we are inviting the station commander from RAF Lyneham and six members of the Wootton Bassett Royal British Legion.

“They play such a massive part in the repatriations of the fallen and this is a local thank you.

“When I rang up and had a chat with the Royal British Legion team they were really excited.

“They just have to turn up and enjoy the music.”

In response to whether Prince Charles will be attending, Air Commodore Beange said: “It depends on his availability.

“I haven’t had a yes, but then I haven’t had a no either.”

The RAF Central Band is internationally renowned and is the first band outside the USA to be awarded the John Philip Sousa Citation for Musical Excellence.

The band have performed throughout the world and carried out public duties at Buckingham Palace alongside the Queen’s Colour Squadron and provided musical support to the Royal Standard and Colour presentation by the Queen at Royal Air Force Fairford.

The Help for Heroes concert starts at 7.30pm and will also feature Bath’s famous Male Choir from the Last Choir Standing television series, as well as soprano Charlotte Newstead and the Bath Chorus Choir.

Tickets are now on sale from £10 to £30 from the Bath box office by telephoning (01225) 463362 or boxoffice@bathfestivals.org.uk.
