Their word is their Bond at the Lamb Inn in Urchfont, which has just handed over more than £3,000 to Help for Heroes raised at an 007 party in the pub last November.

Regulars dressed in costumes from the hit series of films featuring the secret agent created by author Ian Fleming.

There were quite a few men in tuxedos sporting toy guns and ladies in provocative costumes.

Oddjob, the villain from Goldfinger, was spotted and it was rumoured that Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of SPECTRE, was skulking in the loo.

Landlady Julie Elliot, who runs the pub with husband John and daughter Alex, is delighted with the amount raised.

She said: “Everyone you talk to knows someone serving out there or has someone in the family who is. We got so much support for this event. The place was packed and we had some fantastic items in our auction.”

She and Alex handed the cheque for £3,048 to Help for Heroes volunteer Liz Bailey from Bishops Cannings. She and her husband Norman got involved with the charity after their grandson served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

She told those at the pub on Saturday evening: “A very big thank you for this incredible effort. Every penny of this will be going to the cause and will be used for the purposes for which you gave it.”

The sum brings to £7,600 the amount raised at the pub for Help for Heroes over the last 18 months.
