New band The Daturas take a break from London to return to their home town for this weekend’s Bradford Roots Acoustic Music Festival.

The four-piece from Bradford on Avon will perform a 40-minute set on Saturday night at the event which showcases local talent.

Lead singer Joe Chowles, 23, said: “We are gigging mostly around London but it is good to be asked to attend. It is always great to perform in Bradford.”

The band, who all attended St Laurence School, will perform up to 10 songs, including several from their soon-to-be-released EP Overlooked By The End.

All artists at the two-day festival have strong links to Bradford and the surrounding area, inluding Andrew Bazeley who 20 years ago was treasurer of a group who worked towards building a music rehearsal and tuition facility in the grounds of St Laurence School. After a successful bid they won a National Lottery fund and Wiltshire Music Centre was opened in 1998.

Mr Bazeley gives a talk on The Story Of the Blues tomorrow (1.45pm) before his performance, and he said: “It’s almost like coming home.”
