Pupils hit the right note in Trowbridge for Fairtrade
11:00am Saturday 16th March 2013 in Bradford
A singing competition was held at Trowbridge Town Hall as part of Fairtrade Fortnight on Saturday.
More than 70 primary school pupils took part in the event, for children from Hilperton Primary School, St John’s Catholic Primary School and The Mead Community Primary School.
The children performed in front of around 400 people, with pupils from the Hilperton school taking first place in the competition along with the prize of £150 donated by the Co-operative Society.
Trowbridge Town Coun-cillor, Steve Oldrieve, who is part of the town’s Fairtrade group, said: “It was a fantastic event and the enthusiasm and enjoyment displayed by all the young people was a real treat and shone through in the high performance standards. We are fortunate to have such quality schools in the area.”
During the event there were displays of crafts, ethical merchandise and information about Fair-trade charities.
Fairtrade Fortnight ran from February 25 until Sunday.
