Residents are being challenged to grow a winning entry from a plug plant in time for this year’s Bradford on Avon Flower Show in September.

Avonfield Gardens, in Holt Road, is once again sponsoring the Grow it On plug plant challenge, and mayor John Potter said: “All you have to do is drop in to the garden centre and pick up your plug plant, fill in a registration form – and spend the summer growing on your plant to enter in the show.”

Work being done to improve facilities at St Margaret’s Hall meant that an alternative home had to be found. Christchurch Primary School has agreed to host the event, which will be taking place on Sunday, September 8.

There are even more classes to enter this year. In response to public demand, there are some additional fruit and vegetable classes, the popular animal made out of vegetables class has been thrown open to adults as well as children, and people are being invited to create an embellished tea cosy, from a basic pattern supplied by Jumble Jelly in Silver Street.

Mr Potter said: “The show is free to enter and free to attend thanks to the continued support of Bradford Town Council.

“So here’s hoping for a brilliant summer and a record number of entries for the 2013 Avon Flower show.”
