Holt and Bradford Avon residents were hit by a spate of burglaries and thefts over the weekend.

In Holt seven garages, two sheds and two homes were targeted overnight from Friday to Saturday . Items taken included a £1,000 bike from a garage in Leigh Road, bolt croppers from a garage in Hawcroft, a bag from a house in Hawcroft, a purse containing £35 from a home on The Common and a cash box from a shed on The Common. The bolt croppers, bag and purse were later recovered.

Although on five occasions nothing was found to have been taken, searches had been made.

Three cars were also found to have been searched through but again nothing is believed to have been taken. Entry to all three cars had been made through unlocked doors.

On the same night a mower and strimmer was taken from a garage in Huntington Rise in Bradford on Avon.

On Saturday night into Sunday morning two other homes in Bradford were entered via windows, one of which was insecure. A total of £135 cash was taken from one and £14 from another.

Wiltshire Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them and Insp Lisette Harvey said: "This sort of crime can have a big impact on victims even if items are not taken. The thought that someone has been in your home or on your property is often very disturbing for people.

"At this time of year, with the nice weather and long evenings, being security conscious is even more important. Windows can often be left open including on both homes and cars and with many people out in their gardens sheds and garages are often left insecure."

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
