The Bradford on Avon station footbridge restoration is to be entered into next year’s National Railway Heritage Trust awards when completed.

The footbridge was lifted out several weeks ago and sent to a foundry in Plymouth for repair.

After it was re-installed, the span and staircases were painted in the original Great Western Railway colours of dark and light stone to reflect the station’s heritage status.

The platform canopies were also re-painted and the final stage will be to restore the original roof.

Station manager Nicholas Reid said: “To take this footbridge back to its original state, and have the station looking as it would have done over 150 years ago, will be fantastic and to have this project recognised would be an honour.”
