Walkers of all abilities will once again be gathering in Bradford on Avon next month to take part in the three-day Festival of Walking.

The festival, in its second year, will run from September 6-8 and people will be able to explore the countryside and learn the history of the town through a variety of walks suitable for every age and ability.

There will be 11 walks, ranging from one to eight miles, and will take in a variety of views, including a vineyard, local historic residences and the Frome and Avon River Valleys.

People can take part in a supper walk at the Dog and Fox, a bird spotting walk and visit Box Steam Brewery in Holt. There is also the chance for bat watching at Barton Farm Country Park during an evening bat walk, but it is advised to book early as places are limited.

Bradford on Avon’s Walkers Are Welcome group created the festival last year as a way of putting the town on the map and attracting people from outside the area.

Member of the group Richard Craft, who represents Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon, said: “There is a recreational side to it but also an economical side because it brings people into the town. People can see what a beautiful area we live in.

“We often take it for granted. By walking and getting out there you can really appreciate the treasures we have around here and it is a great way of meeting new people.”

All walks begin in Westbury Gardens and tickets can be bought from Bradford on Avon’s Tourist Information Centre.
