Following last night’s heavy rainfall five flood warnings are in place across Wiltshire.

The Environment Agency has warned flooding is expected at Semington Brook, Lower Wylye and the River Avon at Bradford on Avon, Melksham and Malmesbury.

While, the agency has also stressed that a risk of flooding remains in place at the River Biss, between Westbury and Trowbridge, the mid River Avon, between Melksham and Bradford on Avon, and upper River Avon, between Malmesbury and Chippenham. F

ollowing the weekend’s heavy rainfall Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service attended a number of incidents and in many cases assisted with pumping water from properties which had been flooded.

On Saturday, a crew from Marlborough attended a flooded property in Main Street, Keevil, offering assistance at 11.25am.

A crew from Corsham used a light portable pump to reduce water levels at a house in Beanacre at 1.35pm.

A crew from Warminster also reduced water levels at a flooded house on the A350, in Westbury, at 1.35pm, while a crew from Bradford on Avon attended a home that had been flooded, in Ham Green, Holt, at 5pm.

Firefighters also had to free a family from a car at Staverton, at the B3105, which has been closed to motorists following a flood.

A crew wearing drysuits used a specialist water rescue appliance and an inflatable walkway to rescue two adults and two children who had become stranded after trying to drive down the road, at 4.57pm.

On Sunday, another car also got stuck on the Holt side of the crossroads at 9.20pm. A crew from Trowbridge attended but the driver eventually managed to free the vehicle.

The fire service are again reminding motorists to adhere to road closure notices and not to drive through flooded roads.

Rail travel is currently unaffected in the county, with First Great Western reporting only disruption to services in Wales, and bus services are operating normally.

A Faresaver spokesman said: "We did have issues just before Christmas but at the moment there is no disruption to our routes."
