A burglar who gained access to a Bradford on Avon home through a cat flap has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Jarrant Rice, 19, from Bibstone, Kingswood, near Bristol, gained entry to a home in Farleigh Wick on October 23 last year by reaching through the cat flap and opening a side window.
Once inside he helped himself to a number of electrical items and jewellery.
He was eventually linked to the burglary by DNA.
After pleading guilty to the offence at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday he was sentenced to 12 months in jail for the offence and a further 12 months for another burglary in the Avon & Somerset force area and for breach of a suspended sentence.
PC Andy Henson, from the Priority Crime Team in Melksham, said: "Those who commit these crimes often do so with absolutely no regard for the affect it has on their victims.
"Offenders should have no doubt that we will always fully investigate these crimes and ensure we capitalise on any opportunity to identify who they are and put them before the courts."
