Campaigners determined to stop heavy lorries flouting regulations and driving over Bradford on Avon’s historic bridge have helped secure 14 more prosecutions.
Since Lorry Watch was formed in 2012, dedicated volunteers working with Wiltshire Council and the town council have been monitoring vehicles infringing the weight limit on the town bridge.
The latest prosecutions at Swindon Magistrates' Court saw 14 companies and drivers fined more than £10,000.
Keith Humphries, cabinet member for public protection, said: “I want to thank all those involved in Lorry Watch for their commitment day in day out to make this an effective campaign which has made such an impact.
“This is a clear example of a community working together with the council to solve a local problem and the message is getting out there – if you ignore the signs you are going to get caught.”
