A new season was welcomed at Wiltshire Music Centre with the unveiling of artist Bruce Munro’s light installation on Saturday.

Weaving its way in a serpentine fashion across the ceiling of the foyer, the suspended structure, called Rhythm and Blues, has 405 strands of illuminated fibre optic and aluminium diffusers.

Mr Munro said: “It is a privilege to have been invited to create a piece at the Wiltshire Music centre, and its presence here is testimony to the amazing work of the Centre team and its significance as a venue showing first class music in Wiltshire and surrounding counties.

“For me it is always wonderful to have the opportunity to create a permanent piece especially in a place that is close to home and where it can be enjoyed as part of a broader cultural experience.”

The autumn/winter season at the centre in Bradford on Avon is the first to have its programme entirely done by its new artistic director, James Slater.

Visitors can now enjoy the upgraded café, foyer and auditorium. Building work took place over the summer paid by a £371,000 Arts Council England grant.

It is hoped the enhanced technical equipment and acoustic treatment in the auditorium will make for better quality sound.

Clare Jack, executive director of the centre, said: “With a fantastic programme of music ahead of us we are welcoming the new season with a great sense of optimism and excitement.”
