Bradford on Avon’s annual fireworks display is at risk of cancellation this year if the committee does not find more members to help organise the popular event.

Every year, the BOA Fireworks Committee - made up of parents of pupils attending Christ Church, Fitzmaurice and St Laurence schools - organise the event, which raises over £7000 for the three schools.

Held in the Beehive Field in Trowbridge Road, it has developed over the years to include children’s activities, food and drink stalls, a funfair, live bands, and the spectacular firework display, but despite an appeal for new members last week only one new person was present at last week’s committee meeting.

The committee has issued a final appeal for new members to attend the next meeting at The Bear, in Silver Street, on Wednesday at 8pm.

Without significant support, this year’s display, due to be held on Saturday November 8 from 5.30-8.30pm, may not go ahead.

A message on Fitzmaurice Primary School’s website by chairman of the committee, Russell Cole, said: “With the current depleted numbers at the organisational level, it is entirely possible that the decision at (Wednesday’s) meeting will be to cancel this year’s event rather than run it in an unprofessional way.

“If you are enthusiastic and keen to make this event a success, then come along to the meeting or get in touch.”

BOA Fireworks Committee is particularly looking for people who would be interested in taking over site management, organising helpers, ticketing, and planning the music, theme, etc. of the display, but anyone interested in getting involved at an organisational level will be warmly welcomed. There is a separate process for recruiting those keen to help on the day.
