A man caught with thousands of pounds worth of hard drugs for dealing has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Christopher Cain, 23, was asleep on a sofa in a two bedroom flat when police launched a drugs raid on Wednesday, February 13, last year.

And when officers looked in two bags next to where he had been dozing they found one contained 16 cling film wraps of heroin.

In the other they recovered a further 119 street deals of heroin contained in cigarette papers and cling film as well as another, larger, knotted wrap of the drug.

A coat on the back of the door, which he said he had borrowed the night before, also had another 17 film wraps in it.

David Scutt, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court on Friday that the drugs, worth almost £3,000, were found at the flat in Summerleaze, Trowbridge.

He said the defendant's DNA was also found inside many of the wraps as well as on food film wrap rolls and he had empty packs of cigarette papers.

A set of scales in the house also had traces of the drugs on them along with caffeine and paracetamol, which had been used to cut the drugs.

Police also found a mobile phone which was littered with messages relating to the trade in class-A drugs sent and received during the previous few days.

When he was interviewed by the police he said he had been smoking cannabis and did not have anything to do with the heroin.

He denied the allegations until the day of trial when he changed his plea to accept he had been involved in the cutting and wrapping of the drugs.

Cain, of Budbury Circle, Bradford on Avon, admitted possessing heroin with intent to supply and simple possession of cannabis.

At the time of the offences he was serving a suspended sentence for burgling a house and aggravated vehicle taking.

Mike Pulsford, defending, said his client was one of four people in the flat when it was raided, including the householder, and was the only one charged.

Since his arrest he said he has been living with his uncle and had a job with JD Wetherspoons working as a kitchen hand at Lloyds Bar in Trowbridge.

"He is at the mercy of the court. He is the only man in the dock of four who could have been charged," he said.

Jailing him, Judge Tim Mousley QC said: "It is accepted on your part that you were involved in street dealing and playing a significant part in it.

"Your basis of plea indicates your part was not the major part but this was the supply of a class-A drug in a quantity that was serious for street dealing, I am told over 100 wraps of the drug.

"That offence is so serious that only a custodial sentence can be justified.

"At the time you were subject to a suspended sentence order from this court, albeit for offences of a different nature."
