More than 250 people enjoy a superb feast of music by the Flowers Band from Gloucester at Wiltshire Music Centre on Sunday.

It was compered and conducted by musical director, Paul Holland.

The concert, organised by Bratton Silver Band as part of its programme to publicise brass band music, included the 2014 National Brass Band Championships test piece Legend of King Arthur which the band will perform at the Royal Albert Hall on October 11,when it represents the West of England in the National Brass Band Championships.

Lucy Scott, president of Bratton Silver Band, said afterwards: “David Childs demonstrated his skills of musical poise and agility as he performed the British premiere of the 2nd and 3rd movements of Jonathan Bates Stratos Concerto for Euphonium. Sleeping Earth (from Outer Space) formed the atmospheric second movement during which the whole band sang in harmony as David wove a lyrical line above. The final movement was the extremely fast paced Dance of the Spiral Galaxies. His performance was given ecstatic applause “Principal cornet, Andy Smith delighted the audience with his beautiful mellow performance of Fear Not. In complete contrast the whole cornet section displayed their vibrant technical playing in an adaption of Dinicu’s violin showpiece Horra Staccato.

“Paul Richards mesmerised the audience with his melodic soprano cornet rendition of Memory from the musical Cats. This lyrical style of playing also shone through in a controlled performance of Concierto D’Aranjuez on flugel horn by Will Norman.”

The band’s musical programme was enhanced by the use of original film especially commissioned for the Flowers Band which was projected onto the concert hall’s big screen as they performed A Seal Lullaby, A Family Portrait and their finale One Small Step.

Following rapturous applause the Flowers Band thrilled the audience with their encore, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue.
