Organisers of a charity fun run in Winsley say they have surpassed their £1,000 target and are looking to make it an annual event.

Four-year-old Alfie Feilden, of Winsley, suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a degenerative muscle wasting disease, and is wheelchair bound.

He started at Winsley Acorns Pre-school in September 2013 with twin brother Charlie, who does not have the condition. They completed the year and joined Winsley Primary School last month.

Both schools held the event on Saturday to raise funds for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Support UK, with Alfie dressed as Woody from Toy Story and Charlie as superman.

About 60 people completed either the 5km or 3km run, and returned to Winsley Primary for a barbecue, bouncy castle and raffle.

Mel Halliday, manager of Winsley Acorns Pre-school, said: “It was amazing. We easily raised over £1,000, with more coming in.

“We had a really good turnout and there was a really positive atmosphere. We raised funds, awareness and people got to meet Alfie.

“It was a huge success from start to finish.”
