The tourism information centre in Bradford on Avon could make a comeback next month when the town council asks residents what they would like to see happen for tourism in the town.

The centre closed because of a shortage of money at the end of October.

Shops, pubs, cafes and other businesses are meeting former TIC volunteers to discuss the best way to restart a tourism service in the town.

Town councillors were told on Tuesday by Cllr John Potter about proposed plans.

He said: “The whole tourism information centre needs to be integrated with the people who use it and to what people want.”

“The tourism centre acts as a catalyst for the town.”

The proposed date for the meeting is December 12 at 6pm with the location yet to be confirmed.

The town council is hoping that David Andrews, chief executive of Visit Wiltshire as well as Len Turner from the Warminster TIC will attend.

The Westbury Gardens premises has three years left on its lease and councillors are hoping to work with neighbouring businesses to keep it there. They were told the building’s landlord would be happy for the TIC to continue there.

Cllr Potter suggested a move to the Vaults near Lamb Yard if the current site cannot be used.

Bradford on Avon’s Tourist Information Centre website is still operating and there are plans to ensure it continues.
