Fitzmaurice Primary School can pride itself on being environmentally friendly after the installation of 46 new solar panels.
The panels went on the roof of the Bradford on Avon school over half term, and at an assembly last Friday, those involved in the nine-month project were able to thank its five major sponsors – Barefoot Live Events, the Paper Bag Company, Varn Media, The Broade Forde Masonic Lodge and Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon.
Each panel cost nearly £400. It is hoped they could provide up to 10 per cent of the school’s energy.
Project co-ordinator Richard Craft said: “It has very much been a community effort. Our target was £16,000 and we ended up raising nearly £18,000.”
Fundraising efforts included a table tennis marathon, a quiz night as well as an auction of promises, where the highest bid was a date with Bath rugby star Gavin Henson, which raised more than £900.
