Winsley Church of England Primary School is now home to a new games table suitable for wheelchair users after a £250 donation from a nearby business.

Staff at the Co-op store in Tyning Road were approached by Rowan Feilden who has twin sons, one of who, Alfie, suffers with spinal muscular atrophy.

As a degenerative muscle-wasting disease, Alfie aged five, is wheelchair bound and his brother Charlie does not suffer from the condition.

Co-op manager, Liz Eastwood said: “We regularly help local good causes and charities with smaller donations towards raffles and fundraising activities to support the community.”

“But I really wanted to see whether we could go the extra mile to enable the school to cover the cost of a table tennis table for Alfie and other wheelchair users to play on.”

The table has allowed for eight children at a time to play table tennis and table-top cricket.

Wiltshire Cricket have also been helping out Winsley Primary by offering pupils six weeks of coaching.

Headteacher Becky Wilson said: “It is an invaluable resource which will be used by all children at our school, but primarily is being used to teach table-top cricket.

“This is a sport designed to enable wheelchair users to take part in a competitive sport alongside their peers and is really popular with our early years children.”
