A teenager who made an eagle to raise money for Dorothy House has donated it to the hospice’s outreach centre in Trowbridge.

Jamie Pugsley, 15, who attends Melksham Oak, was one of a team of young people who had a stall at the Trowbridge Teenage Market, where they sold products they had made.

He created the eagle to auction in aid of the hospice, but the charity was so impressed it wanted to buy Jamie’s creation.

So he has refunded the payment and given the bird to staff at the centre on the Bryer Ash Business Park.

Sue Eskins, a specialist nurse team leader at the centre, said: “It was lovely to meet Jamie and his family. He is a fine young man.

“Dorothy House Trowbridge is delighted to give the eagle a home and it is in pride of place in the coffee area, where it can be seen from the door as visitors come in.

“It will provide a great ice breaker for people who may be nervous about visiting a hospice and is an opportunity to open conversations and make people feel at ease.

“The team have decided to name the eagle JJ, after J for Jamie. We are also very grateful to him for his donation.”

The Trowbridge Town Team, which helps organise the Teenage Market, is encouraging young stallholders to enter a competition called Hitachi Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, with a £500 prize.

An awards night will be held at Hitachi’s new head-quarters on White Horse Business Park in Trow-bridge on February 25.
