Bradford on Avon residents and workers are needed as on-call firefighters, in a drive to recruit more people to provide fire cover for the town and its surrounding communities.

On-call firefighters respond to a pager when a 999 call is made locally, must be able to reach the fire station within five minutes of it going off, and are needed at all times.

Although hours can vary, on-call firefighters are asked to make themselves available for between 48-120 hours per week, which will allow each fire station team to provide cover for weekdays, evenings, nights and weekends.

Bradford’s station manager Andy Green said: “The team is really committed to helping the community, but we do need more people to join us, especially offering day cover. Anyone interested can call in at the fire station on a Monday evening or visit www.wiltsfire.gov.uk/ workingforus.

“The pay varies depending on how much cover you give, but it is really rewarding to be part of your community.”
