Nearly 15 businesses have already signed up for this year’s pancake race in Bradford on Avon.

Police will close the road either side of the town bridge for 10 minutes for the race, at 4pm on Tuesday.

Pancake flipping has been a town tradition for about 20 years and was first organised by Bradford on Avon town council, Chamber of Commerce and the former Tourist Information Centre.

Co-ordinator Jackie Allan said she hopes this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

She said: “It’s always a great atmosphere and you get different types of competitors. In previous years we’ve seen young and athletic businesses who are in for the win, people taking part for the comedy, and also business owners who just take their time.”

Now in its third year, about 100 competitors are expected to take part in the children’s race, at 3pm in Lamb’s Yard.

Mrs Allan added: “We’re raising money to put back into other events so we’re hoping that the pancake race continues to be bigger and better each year.”

Money raised this year will go towards the Christmas lights fund. Entry and sponsorship forms are available from the Pavilion Cafe, Bradford On Avon Library, Tillions in the Shambles and Piha in Lamb’s Yard.
