VICTORY field in Bradford on Avon is now home to a new bench thanks to a donation from the Lions Club after the previous one got damaged by vandals.
The bench, which is made from recycled plastic materials, was bought by the Lions Club for £500 after the town council and sports association became concerned that residents, particularly the elderly, had no point of rest when going on a walk in the field.
At a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Brian Hersee, president of the Bradford on Avon lions club said: “It is something that everyone has been involved in and we had put on at the bowls club and they loved it. We hope that it will be used forever by everyone in the community because a real effort was put in between all parties.”
The field is used for numerous community events throughout the year and the Lions thought that the new edition would tie in nicely to their Easter egg hunt which they are bringing back after six years on Easter Monday.
Mayor John Potter added: “It is really great for it to be replaced because the one that was there before was smashed up and it is something which everyone can use now.”
The sports association is now hoping that people will be more willing to use the field for events now that the new bench has been added.
