WINSLEY Primary pupils can now learn in a new outdoor classroom thanks to the fundraising efforts of the PTA who raised over £8,000 for its installation.

The project, which has been in the pipeline for two years, has seen the nine-member strong PTA host a variety of events to raise the money including a Christmas fair, village quiz and summer fete.

Becky Wilson, headteacher at Winsley Primary said: “The children can take their learning outside and we have already had classes outside using it for music lessons.

“We try really hard to use the outdoor environment to add and support their learning and we try to make it meaningful. The children absolutely love it and since the classroom was installed, the teachers have been really good in using it straight away.”

The school hosted their annual Make a Difference day over the weekend inviting parents to tidy up the area around the new outdoor classroom which is big enough to fit a class of 30 children in.

The classroom has one in-filled wall with a chalk board and a fully-accessible ramp and Caroline Roofe, chair of the PTA said that without the help of parents, the project would not have been possible.

She added: “The idea of the fundraising was to develop the whole outdoor area of the school so that children can play outside more than they have been able to.”

The next project which the PTA hope raise funds for is to improve night time lighting on the drive at the school, making it safer for both parents and staff.
