POLICE have said that a motorcyclist had a lucky escape after his bike collided with a car resulting in him being left covered in fuel in Bradford on Avon.

The accident happened at around 9.30pm on Thursday and the 20-year-old motorbike rider was coming down St Margaret’s Street to join Trowbridge Road when a black car, coming from Junction Road, failed to give way.

A witness identified the car as a black Vauxhall Corsa which, after knocking the motorcyclist over, mounted the pavement and sped off towards Trowbridge.

Police have identified from a wing mirror, which was taped together and dropped from the car, that the vehicle is a 2002-06 model.

The motorcyclist was medically examined at the scene but had to be taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath where he was treated for concussion and memory loss. He was discharged the next day.

PC Cathy Byers said that after the bike landed on top of the motorcyclist, he was left covered in fuel and is lucky to be alive.

She added: “The helmet he was wearing was probably what saved his life and there was extensive damage caused to the bike.”

PC Byers also said the driver of the car was male with a shaven head. Anyone with information the car or its owner should call 101, quoting police reference: 54150024571.
