BRADFORD on Avon is most commonly known for its picturesque scenery, its market town status and a string of independent shops but this week, the hatching of six cygnets caught the eye of tourists and residents alike.

People first noticed that two mute swans had started to nest on the embankment below the town bridge in March and since then they have drawn much attention about possible hatchings.

Via Twitter, local residents kept track of the developments, and as each of the six eggs were laid, anticipation grew over when a first sighting of cygnets would happen.

Six cygnets were hatched on Wednesday and people have been making their way to the embankment, ironically outside the Swan Hotel, to capture a glimpse.

Two eggs now remain on the nest and it is hoped that they will hatch next week.
