ORGANISERS of the annual Christ Church Primary May fair in Bradford on Avon have hailed this year’s event a huge success after raising nearly £7,000 towards the school's IT curriculum.

The Bank Holiday Monday fair, which is now in its 37th year, has been a firm favourite with locals in the town and over 2,000 people attended this year’s all-day event which was organised by the Friends of Christ Church School (FOCCS).

With the sun shining, visitors were treated to a whole host of attractions including Morris dancing, table tennis tournaments, a bake-off, a fun run, dance displays and games like a wellington throwing competition.

A new addition to this year’s fair was 15 pupils from the school performing a maypole dance which organisers hoped would take the event back to its traditional roots.

Joanna Moyser, chair of FOCCS said: “We are absolutely delighted with how the event went and our thanks go out to everyone in the local community who came along and helped make the event such a success.

“We gave ourselves an overall fund raising target of £8,000 this year which we didn't quite reach, however we are thrilled that the money we have raised this year will meet our target contribution of £7,000 to the school's IT curriculum.”

The fair is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the PTA and all the money raised will go towards a variety of learning resources including computers, sports equipment, children's newspapers and special software for children with dyslexia.

Neil Baker, head teacher at Christ Church Primary said: “We are over the moon with how the May fair went and want to thank wholeheartedly everyone that volunteered their time to make it happen.  We are so grateful for this injection of funds towards IT - which is so vital to the pupil's education.”

FOCCS next big focus will be raising funds for the school's book drive.
