CHILDREN made the most of half term this week with a trip to the Friends of Westwood School’s scarecrow trail, which organisers believe is the biggest yet.

The two mile event, which is now in its fourth year, featured more than 30 scarecrows, all dressed as either a hero or a villain.

Last year the trail raised more than £1,000, split equally between Westwood with Iford School and Westwood Nursery School, and this year the event is expected to raise even more.

Lilly Webb from FOWS said: “After four days we had sold nearly 300 maps so we are well on course to significantly beat the 400 maps we sold last year.

“Again we are amazed and delighted with the quality of the scarecrows. There really are some very clever scarecrow makers in Westwood.”

The funds collected will be donated towards improving outdoor spaces at the school and nursery.

The walk starts and finishes at Westwood village shop and maps cost £3 each.

The trail finishes on Sunday (May 31).
