SECURING the wellbeing of children sealed the deal for Ofsted inspectors to rate Westwood Nursery "good" in their latest report, according to the nursery manager.

Dawn Bryant said staff were delighted with at the news of the nursery’s latest report rating after they were inspected last month.

Mrs Bryant said: “We were very pleased with the report. Obviously the most important thing is the wellbeing of the children and that is the area where we were rated as outstanding. We are very chuffed that it reflects the hard work of the staff and committee to make sure the nursery is running how it should be for the children.”

The nursery which is based in Upper Westwood, caters for 32 children aged two to five and in their last inspection in 2011, they were also given the rating of ‘good’.

Ofsted inspector Judith Harris said in the report: “Children develop extremely warm, nurturing relationships with staff which ensures children feel valued and emotionally secure. As a result, they are exceptionally confident and enthusiastically engage with the activities.”

She added that the staff’s understanding of the learning needs of each child has resulted in the pupils “rapidly gaining the confidence and self-assurance needed for moving on to school”.

In order to secure an overall outstanding status, the nursery has been recommended to promote children’s knowledge of early mathematical ideas to allow them to gain an understanding of shape, size and measurement.
