FRUITFUL festivities were the flavour of the day as the annual Fitzmaurice Strawberry Fair took over Bradford on Avon at the weekend to raise vital funds for the school.

The Fitzmaurice School Association organised the event, now in its ninth year, to the delight of hundreds of families who attended on Saturday.

An inflatable bungee run, a science exhibition and a shooting gallery were just some of the new attractions at this year’s event among other family favourites such as the strawberry splat and fun run.

Julia Savage, chair of the FSA, said the amount raised matched previous years which will be put towards the school.

“A fair few hundred people turned out on Saturday and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We tried to make sure that there was something for everyone and that everyone could get involved.

“Over the years we’ve tried to do something different and this year we had an inflatable bungee run among other things and all of it was really popular with not only the children but also the adults too. Fitzmaurice Primary has moved on so well over the years and so we have tried to do the same and keep the event fresh.

Last year, the FSA managed to raise nearly £13,000 for the primary school which was put towards projects including the newly-opened library and improvements to IT education.

Mrs Savage added: “The Strawberry Fair is a real community day and we tried to involve as many people as we can. We just wanted to make sure that everyone went home having had a great time. There were a lot of smiling children and it really does make the team effort worth it.”

The FSA will now be working towards their next fundraising endeavours, including the town’s firework display in November.
