ST LAURENCE School in Bradford on Avon is celebrating its continued success of academic achievements today as many students came out with A*’s across the board.

Jess Kashdan-Brown, 18 achieved more than she ever expected and secured three A*s – enough to bag herself a place at the University of Warwick to study English and creative writing.

Opening her results at 8am, she said: “I am very happy with them. I’m glad that all my work has paid off in the right way because I enjoyed all my subjects and I didn’t think I would end up with these.”

Jess’ mum Julia said she was very proud of her daughter and added: “I am absolutely delighted. None of us were expecting A* and you don’t want to be overambitious but we couldn’t be more happy with the results.”

Jack Williams, 18 who anxiously came to collect his results from the school, found out that he had secured a place at Leicester University in medicine.

He said: “I only needed three A’s but I managed to get two A*’s and an A. I woke up this morning and didn’t know what to expect.

“I think medicine is something I have always been interested in and I haven’t thought about studying anything else really.”

Having taken A Levels in geography, biology and chemistry, Jack is now looking forward to going home to celebrate the results with his parents.

He added: “They found out this morning when I looked online and I am just relieved because they were difficult but the work has paid off.”

Another pupil who was also celebrating her results was Natasha Harvey, 18 who said despite her A*, A and B, she was hoping to get an A in history – the subject she will go on to study at Leeds University.

“History has always been something I have been interested in and I have had brilliant teachers and I have just loved learning history with them.

“I woke my sister up this morning and put the laptop by her bed and just said keep refreshing the page while I go and get the results. I then had a phone call to say I got in. It’s a lot of things happening in a short amount of time.

“I’m hoping to get the B in history looked at again but I think it is just me being a bit sour but I’m still so happy knowing I’m off to uni.”

St Laurence headteacher Fergus Stewart said he was very proud of the results with seven students achieving a clean sweep of A* and A grades.

He added: “The average point score achieved per student is well above target, a result of hard work and commitment from students and teachers. Overall achievement has been in line with expectations.

“Sixth form students contribute a great deal to St Laurence and their success is well deserved. We are proud of those going on to apprenticeships and jobs, as well as the many who are now embarking on a university course. We congratulate them all and wish them all the very best for the future.

“We look forward to welcoming a new group of students into the sixth form – they will benefit from the superb new sixth form centre which is being completed ready for September.”
